Many believe that artists - especially those that are particularly gifted -
are born and not made. In looking at the musical talents of Emile Lambrev, one could
easily make that case.
Signs of his aptitudes became evident early on when at the age of seven, he was the
only one - at his grade school for the musically gifted - who could sing a difficult
tune, note for note, exactly the way his teacher had performed it. Other important
related events soon began to unveil when at the age of 10, Emile formally began his
performing career. "I gave an average of 10 recitals and concerts a year," he states.
"I was the youngest participant at the Fifth International P.I. Tchaikovsky Piano
Competition, held in the Soviet Union."
Beginning at 14 and continuing on to age 19, he displayed an uncanny ability to
perform and interpret the challenging works of composers such as Liszt, Chopin,
Tchaikovsky, and Schumann.
But it was in his early twenties that Emile had an epiphany, discovering that "there
were no barriers between my heart and my fingers. I discovered that through music, you
can transcend to reach people on the highest level...and connect to the power of
healing."
He went on to accompany both the Bulgarian and Romanian Gymnastic teams during
competitions held around the world. Deciding to branch off and grow in his art, he
began touring Europe with the hit eastern European rock band, Signal. The band
performed 40 concerts in 30 days, for an average of 6000 people per show. It was
also at this time that a certain melody started circling and circling around in his
head -- but more about that later. All of this hard work paid off, when Emile was
eventually offered a scholarship at the esteemed Berklee School of Music in Boston.
In talking about his current effort, "Nostalgic Dream," Emile's premonitions on the
project are almost eerie. "During my tour with Signal, this tune started pounding away
in my head...and it didn't stop. Finally, I decided to write it down." That melody turned
into his composition, "Nostalgic Dream." Over a decade later -- with the help and
inspiration of renowned producer/composer Emilio Palame (Peggy Lee,Chuck Mangione,
Hollywood Bowl Orchestra), his composition became a reality.
In "Nostalgic Dream," you can hear musical styles and elements from around the world.
From classical and jazz, to blues and eastern European folk music, it's all there.
It doesn't hurt that Emile also possesses the rare talent of being able to pull
all of these various styles and influences together and make it work in a natural
and effortless way. "I love combining styles. "Nostalgic Dream" is a unique blending
of different worlds and cultures...kind of an east meets west."
In the end, it appears that Emile has a firm grasp on both his music and the
direction of his future. "I believe I can move people with the melodies that
I have worked so hard to blend together, as well as with the sincerity of my music."
And the fact of the matter is that he is right. One would be hard pressed to find
anyone who could do a better job. And as far as the future goes..."I love to perform
in concert and look forward to touring and performing "Nostalgic Dream" in the near
future. I would also eventually like to apply my talent to film scoring and composing."
And lastly, "I would be honored if I could teach future generations about the importance
of music and the effect that it can have on others. That would be a gift. My objective
is to restore a belief in the romantic experience in music...the quest for enlightenment
and the importance of friendship and love."
It seems that with Emile's immense performing and composing talents, aligned with his
vision and priorities, it is only a matter of time before his own "Nostalgic Dream"
becomes a reality.
